Austria launches first national school project for early diagnosis and tolerance as concerns IBD
Vienna, May 13th, 2015 - more than 40,000 people in Austria are suffering from Crohn’s disease and Ulcerative Colitis, collectively know as inflammatory bowel diseases (IBD. The incidence rate of the disease is very high amongst teenagers and young adults. More than half of young patients visit the pediatric specialist for the first time at the age of 13 to 17.
Therefore anamnesis guidelines have been presented to school doctors in order to support early diagnosis of IBD. Furthermore a youth magazine has been published by the society of school doctors in Austria on the occasion of the World IBD Day on May, 19th.
This magazine aims to promote better understanding for IBD and it encourages more tolerance with the slogan “Friends4Friends - don’t laugh but help”.
