On 19 May, World IBD Day 2026 was marked in Kiel, Germany, with two symbolic purple light installations at the Uni-Hochhaus of Kiel University and the Welcome Center in the city centre. 

As part of the student project Lighthouse, the Uni-Hochhaus façade featured pixelated window animations displaying an inflamed intestine, the purple IBD ribbon, and the message “IBD has no borders.”

Researchers from IKMB and University Hospital Schleswig-Holstein also released Men in Plum, a music video highlighting the human side of IBD research and awareness.
